Level 3 Advanced Leadership Training

The Mentorship Experience

Camp Mokuleia, Oahu, Hawaii: August 7–16, 2009

Leadership • Advanced Facilitation • Community Mentoring

Level 3 is for experienced VMC facilitators ready to learn by leading.

The Mentorship Experience is a service-learning leadership training designed to strengthen the Mentor's facilitation skills by mentoring others through the facilitation training process.

A major focus of the Mentorship Experience is the leadership training. The Leadership forum takes place during the first three days where Mentor activities are directed toward leadership building and personal growth exercises designed to strengthen the Mentor’s communication and community building skills.

The Mentorship Experience reinforces community service values while developing breadth and depth in facilitation practice. Both challenging and rewarding advanced Facilitators will stretch the boundries of their facilitation practice and leadership skills.

Pre- requisites:  Must have attended a level 1 intensive. Level 2 training encouraged but not currently required. Must be actively facilitating using the “Arthurian” methods.

“ There are no mistakes, only opportunities for learning. You can apply this concept both to your circle participants and to yourself as facilitator .” A. Hull

A 10-day leadership training for Drum Circle Facilitators (DCFs) ready to mentor others through rhythm facilitation and community-building processes. Participants will learn advanced community-building techniques and group process skills while leading and mentoring Level 1 participants through the basic drum circle facilitation processes.

The Level 3 Mentor Experience will allow advanced facilitators to experience the practical application of process facilitation and communication skills required for community leadership. This challenging yet rewarding experience provides experienced facilitators a safe place to practice and develop their unique community leadership skills and styles. Throughout the week, mentors will continue developing and enhancing their own DCF techniques, as they help others learn. Mentor facilitators will receive critique and evaluation from master trainers Arthur Hull and Jim Boneau. Mentors will also receive feedback from their mentor and peer groups.

Program Content

This very special program integrates expanded theory and practice for selected facilitators as they turn their practical skills into leadership experience. This program begins with a mentors-only weekend forum to bring our leadership community together.

With trainer oversight, mentor facilitators will be assigned a small group of facilitators to mentor and assist in the training processes that occur throughout the week. Mentors meetings will take place to help mentors process and facilitate their leadership experiences.

Mentors will be instructed in specific process facilitation techniques that are essential to problem solving, communication and community building. Mentors will have plenty of time to practice and develop their own facilitation skills during small group practice and community “jump-time.”

Networking with other community leaders and professional DCFs offers mentors a stimulating environment for inspiring their own professional development and building their rhythm community.
